mood: all too proud music: to keep pieces of my Canadian heritage.

I've struggled for the last little while that I could never remember how to spell "travelling". All of my programs mark it with the angry red line underneath indicating ERROR! I'm convinced it has two Ls, but spell check disagrees with me. But, but ... with one L it looks funny.
Well, aha!
Travelling is merely the Canadian English way to spell traveling.
I can't explain why this makes me so happy.
And yeah, this is a sucky way to come back from a 13 week LJ hiatus. Too bad. |

Anyone up to anything baby-friendly? Any dinner plans? I'm vacillating between hermiting at home or going out for dinner. I'm not sure which one will win at this point ... but if someone has something especially tantalizing to do, I'm all ears. |

| Nighttime Routine |
|
|
| 02:31pm 14/02/2008 |

The other night, I decided to put Céleste to bed. I said that I would try to just lay her down and see if she would fall asleep on her own. So I laid her down in her little bed beside me, talked to her and tried to soothe her to sleep. I told myself that I didn't want her to get used to having to be rocked or held to fall asleep.
After a few minutes she started to fuss, and then cry a little. I kept talking to her in low, soothing tones, telling her how we had a great day but now it was time to sleep. And as I looked at her, with her tiny fists batting the air and a little tear sliding down her cheek, I told myself "Screw this!" and I picked her up, rocked her, sang to her and she promptly fell asleep.
She's only going to be a baby for a little while. It won't be long before I'm sure she won't want me to nuzzle her and hold her and sing her a silly song. So for that night, I did those things, and I enjoyed it with all of my heart.
I love this girl. |

| Short Weekend Recap |
|
|
| 07:33pm 10/02/2008 |
| |
The weekend away was a success. Céleste loved every minute of it. From the ride down in the car (asleep) to the walks on the nature trails (asleep) and the ride back home (asleep again). She really was great though. I was worried that the trip would mess up her schedule more than it did ... but it wasn't too bad. The first night, because she slept so much during the day, she was up every 3 hours or so at night, which has been unusual for her since she was about 2 weeks old. But then, last night, she was so tired from being up ALL DAY that she slept for SEVEN AND A HALF HOURS! A new record! I appreciated the uninterrupted sleep ... I don't think that I woke up even once.
Now we're back home, and I should be unpacking our stuff ... but I decided to take a break and write this up before I put it off indefinitely.
Tomorrow is going to be full of stuff to do. Besides unpacking and house cleaning, I'm meeting a friend for lunch, possibly taking the baby to the doctor (she might be starting a cold? We'll see how she is tonight), dealing with insurance agencies trying to get our car bumper fixed (I was rear ended in the new car on Wednesday ... nothing serious, just a small ding and scratch, but still a pain to get fixed), making various appointments for Daniel and I (dentist, and doctor for me) and, of course, taking care of the baby. Hopefully we'll have another nice, long sleep tonight! |

I'm going to make an effort to update this more. Too bad this first entry will suck.
We're leaving for a weekend in Caddo Lake State Park tomorrow morning. This is the first overnight with the baby, and I'm a little apprehensive. But I've gone over the list of stuff we might need and I'm pretty confident I have everything covered. It's just the car ride that has me a little worried. Luckily she likes traveling in the car (read also: it puts her to sleep) so hopefully that will go well.
Is it possible that she's already 6 weeks old? Doesn't seem so. She's growing up before my eyes ... where was once a small, fragile newborn is now a pudgy infant. She's holding her own head up, and accumulating fat rolls EVERYWHERE. Momma milk rocks like that. ;)
Alright, off to check the packing list again. And to think of how we'll fit all of this in the car tomorrow morning. |

| Sandwiches. |
|
|

Lately, I have been in the mood for sandwiches.
Daniel and I disagree on the whole sandwich aspect. He doesn't like to go out and pay for something that you can make at home. I, however, think that the best lunch you can go out and buy is a sandwich from a nice little deli somewhere. Actually, two of my most memorable meals are sandwiches: lobster sandwich in Nova Scotia, and a veal parmesan sandwich in Toronto that almost made me orgasm in sheer delight. No really, it was THAT good.
Which Wich (their tomato and avocado sandwich is to DIE FOR) is my absolute favourite deli / sandwich shop. However, I tried Potbelly and they were halfway decent as well. Quizno's is good, Subway will do in a pinch.
Now I'm craving a good sandwich today. Something with salami, and olives. Tomatoes, pickles, lettuce, and a good italian dressing. Mmmmm.
This entry brought to you by the fact that I am procrastinating on doing other things. :) |

| Pure Romance - Tonight! |
|
|

Last call for any girl who'd like to join me at a Pure Romance party tonight at 7:30. It's right near my place, so anyone heading to Denton (Ahem, Kristy!) can join me, then we'll pool to Rachelle's afterwards. Promise it'll be fun ... you couldn't ask for a better group of ladies than the girls that I work with.
Call me or email to let me know. It'll be worth your while. :D |

| Interview Me: |
|
|
| 09:33am 07/02/2007 |
| |
1. Leave me a comment saying, "Interview me." 2. I respond by asking you five personal questions so I can get to know you better ! If I already know you well, expect the questions may be a little more intimate! 3. You WILL update your LJ with the answers to the questions. 4. You will include this explanation and an offer to interview someone else in the post. 5. When others comment asking to be interviewed, you will ask them five questions.
whatgiraffe asked ..
1. Do you want a boy or girl for your first? I used to think that I wanted only girls. Now, as cliche as it sounds, I'd be happy with any healthy baby. Though I think, deep inside, I still do want a girl first.
2. Where would your ideal vacation be? I divide this into two. My first choice is always to go home during the summer and spend a very lazy week at camp, reading, drinking, napping, swimming, and surrounded with family. Taking the emotional out of the picture, I think that I would love to go to ... you know, I really don't know. I'll pick Hawaii at random.
3. What is your favorite sexual position? I really will take it any way that I can. I'm not picky!
4. When will you start writing poetry again? I've been trying recently, but I seem to have lost the flow I had gained in the fall. I'm working on it.
5. Where do you see yourself in five years? Mom to 2 kids, living in Canada once again.

1. Without being funny, what is the biggest difference between the US and Canada? Part B: and between the US and Texas? First off, let me tell you that my response is probably Canada-biased. But I find Canadians to be much more polite, and less arrogant. The ones I know care much less about material worth. The country also seems to care more about its people, and is a lot less biased when it comes to touchy subjects (abortion, gay rights, etc). There is much more separation of church and state. As far as between Texas and Canada ... probably the same as above.
2. Emoticons: actual useful communication tool, or the most annoying shorthand ever? Useful ... I use them at the end of almost every IM sentence. I'm scared people won't read the righ sentiment if I don't add them.
3. As your last material posession on earth, you have a choice between a stuffed octopus, an antique record player, or a new coffee maker. Which one do you choose and why? bear in mind you still have all the material posessions you have accumulated, just this is the last one you cvan ever get. Well, since I have no records, a record player would be useless. I don't drink much coffee ... so I'd take the stuffed octopus.
4. If you could challenge one celebrity, living or dead, to a game of Dance Dance Revolution, whom would you choose and why? And would you win? Stephen Hawking, because that's the only chance I have of winning.
5. Is Verbal Kent really Kaiser Soze? Or is there a deeper conspiracy there? I am Kaiser Soze.

Thanks to my wonderful habit of hitting "OFF" when I should hit "SNOOZE", I made it from bed to work in about 5 minutes flat. Granted, I haven't showered, but I brushed my teeth and straightened my hair (at work) so I look presentable, if I say so myself.
We're spending the night at Daniel's parents' tonight, to leave for the Vermont-Canada extravaganza tomorrow morning, before the ass-crack of dawn. I still have things I need to do, but if I go home for lunch, I should be able to manage it all and still get to his parents house tonight at a decent hour. We're already packed clothing-wise, which is a big relief.
During our stay in Vermont, we are visiting much of Daniel's extended family, celebrating a birthday, having a big dinner, and trekking up to New York for more visiting. Then, in Sudbury, we are having at least 2 huge dinners, I get to try on bridesmaids dresses, we'll see the whole entire famn damily, and take multitudes of pictures. It's going to be an action packed 11 days, but I'm looking forward to it very much.
Since no one needs to see my list of stuff to do, I'm going to cut it. I'll see everyone in February!

I really need to get a move on and finish (or start) all the shit that I was supposed to do yesterday and today. I was lazy yesterday and did nothing but crochet and watch 24 all day. Wee. Not that that's not fun, but I really need to be productive. So, a shower is first on the list, and then I think I'm off to grocery shop, then get something in the crock pot for dinner.
*sigh* Even that little looks daunting for now. Maybe I'll feel more human after a shower. |
